BURGLARS TARGET RURAL HOMES
Police officers on the Island are urging us all to make sure doors and windows are locked when we go out.
Thieves have targeted four properties recently stealing purses and handbags.
Newport CID Detective Sergeant Jamie Wilkinson said, “Officers have had reports of walk-in burglaries at houses and camper vans in Pondwell, Luccombe, Horringford, and Havenstreet. Thefts have been taking place during the afternoon and early evening, sometimes whilst residents have been at home. We believe whoever is responsible could be deliberately targeting isolated homes and premises away from the Island’s main towns. I would like to remind householders in remote locations to be vigilant, and follow simple security advice, such as checking that doors and windows are locked".

A 17-year-old youth from Seaview has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after police were called to an address in Pondwell. He's been bailed until September 22 pending further enquiries.
